OCD and phobia intensives

When an hour a week isn’t enough, an intensive gives you focused, concentrated treatment, so progress happens in days instead of months.

What an intensive is

Weekly therapy works for a lot of people. But sometimes you need more than an hour a week to build real momentum. An intensive gives you a full day or two of focused treatment, so we can move through exposures steadily without losing ground between sessions.

For OCD, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is at the heart of the work, with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) woven in when they fit. For specific phobias, I use exposure therapy, gradually facing what you fear in a structured way, along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and ACT skills to help you stay with discomfort. When it fits your goals, we can take exposures outside the office.

Intensives take place in person in Lincoln on Fridays, with Friday and Saturday options for people traveling in.

  • You want to make faster progress on OCD or a specific phobia

  • You’ve hit a plateau in weekly therapy

  • A life change or stressor has made symptoms flare

  • A specific fear is getting in the way of something coming up, like flying or a medical procedure

  • You live outside Lincoln and can’t come in every week

Intensives can be a good fit if:

Formats

Focused

One Friday, 6 hours. A targeted push on one area of OCD or a specific phobia.

Immersive, local

Two Fridays a week apart, 6 hours each, with a week of practice in between. Deeper work with time to try your skills at home.

Immersive, travel

Friday and Saturday back-to-back, 6 hours each. Built for people coming from outside Southeast Nebraska.

Every day runs 10 am to 4 pm with a one hour-long break for lunch, and breaks when you need them.

What’s included

  1. Pre-intensive assessment to make sure an intensive is a good fit (billed separately).

  2. Your personal exposure plan, built together, with guided exposures at a pace you agree to.

  3. Exposures outside the office when they fit your goals.

  4. A written plan to take home, so you can keep your progress going.

  5. An optional support person can join for the last 45 minutes of the final day to learn how to help.

  6. A follow-up session 1 to 2 weeks later for Nebraska clients.

You’re welcome here. You’ll need a diagnosis from a provider in your home state and a therapist at home for ongoing care afterward. We’ll meet in person for your pre-intensive assessment the Thursday evening before your intensive. I’ll go over all the details on our intro call.

Every part of the intensive process is self-pay only, including the assessment, the intensive days, and the follow-up session. I do not bill insurance for any of these services.

If you have Blue Cross Blue Shield as your insurance, you can still choose an intensive as a self-pay service. Before your assessment, you will sign my Prompt Pay Discount form, which confirms that you are choosing to pay me directly for these services and will not submit those fees to your insurance.
